10 Pounds Until Christmas

Like any new blogger, or the author of what is just a new Blog, I wanted my first posting to be exciting, inspirational, and well thought out. However, I just worked out for 3 hours tonight. I make no guarantees.

Yesterday morning I bit the bullet and stepped onto the scale I've been successfully avoiding - minus a couple of chance encounters - ever since July. Graduate school crunch + cruise + losing all forms of routine = one big health slump. As I spent the day pondering where I was and where I want to be, I decided that a goal was what I needed. 10 pounds. I'd be happy to start with 10 pounds. By Christmas.

Why not? That's just under 4 weeks away. Healthy weight loss is up to 2 pounds per week. I can totally do it! So what if it's the holidays, all the more motivation! (Seriously, I've got a party dress to wear in T-minus 10 days).

So, here I am. 10 pounds 'til Christmas.

I like lists. In fact, I LOVE lists. In order to be brief, allow me a list of the happenings since Monday morning:

1. Decision: weigh myself EVERYDAY. Yes, I understand this is not healthy behavior. Yes, I understand it is normal for a healthy female to fluctuate a few pounds in each direction. Yes, I understand that I may drive certain people nuts obsessing over this (lunch partners, specifically). However, I also understand that I've been in denial for much too long. And let's be honest: I'm an extrinsically motivated kind of gal.

2. Jackie Warner. My good friend introduced me to her Power Circuit Training DVD. I'm not an at-home workout girl. But, something needs to get me moving on a Sunday night. And, did she ever! Her strength training has had me waddling, holding my tummy, and wincing every time I sit down ever since. Wonderful feeling!

3.15K - it's time to get serious! That sucker is approximately 3 months away, and I'm sorely behind where I should be in my running abilities. Last night was a 5 mile Wog around Lake Hollingsworth. The first 3 miles were intervals (generally, 5 min jogging 2 min walking). Then, the last 2 miles were speed intervals. No cute guys spotted.

3. I worked out for 3 hours tonight. Mmmmm, 3 hours. That's Body Pump, Spin Class, and Yoga/Pilates at my favorite gym. Plus, tomorrow will be a no-workout day, so I'm making up for it.

4. I was down a half a pound this morning. Very exciting news, folks!

5. Salad for lunch, Salad for dinner - different types, with protein added. With a pre-gym bowl of Bran Flakes & Soy Milk.

6. Hot tea at my desk instead of granola bars. What a concept! I burned through 3 to 4 cups of that stuff today. Extra water plus plenty of bonus antioxidants. Score.

Muuuuuust Resssst. Working out this much always makes my body so physically tired. This morning I dreamt for about 30 that I was in a fight with my older sister about who would be turning off the alarm positioned in between our beds. She won. I had to turn it off, after sleep much too late.
